A Visit to Phelps Creek Vineyards
A sunny Monday found us back in Hood River to visit Phelps Creek Vineyards. We ordered a grazing board which included salami, cheese, baguette, fig jam, olives, rosemary almonds, dried apricots and dates.

I really enjoyed the wine selection at Phelps Creek. The whites were the overall winners for me, but I could have easily been happy with a bottle of the first four pours. The last wine we tried was the Petite Verdot. It was a little too dry for me personally, but it was still good. Of the two reds, I preferred the Pinot Noir. The Rosé was the lightest on flavor, but was refreshing and enjoyable. My top two favorites were the Gerwurztraminer (lightly sweet, but not too sweet) and the Chardonnay, with a slight edge to the Chard, which I tend to favor.
What I enjoyed: The wine was great! Lots of variety and our server was friendly. The outdoor patio seating was situated near a field of purple wildflowers growing under the trees. On a sunny day it was a a nice spot to relax with our wine.
What could use improvement: Both times our group was scheduled to visit Phelps Creek Vineyards (a month apart), the chef was unavailable. So despite having lunchtime reservations, we ordered a charcuterie board instead of lunch. Certainly not the end of the world, but kind of a bummer.
Also be aware that the highway is pretty close to the property, so if you decide to sit outside while you visit Phelps Creek you will hear occasional traffic noise.
