A Day Trip to Experience a Beautiful Waterfall in Santiago
Just an hour and a half north of Cabo San Lucas, a waterfall hiking adventure awaits you in the most unlikely of places, in the middle of the desert! Considering the surrounding terrain, you might be surprised to know that a waterfall exists in the middle of a desert. Just just outside the town of Santiago, BCS is a lush oasis where you can visit Rancho Ecologico Sol De Mayo, a nature preserve featuring a short hike to a beautiful Mexican waterfall. This waterfall is just 50 miles north from Cabo San Lucas, within the Sierra de La Laguna Biosphere Reserve. This area is often referred to Fox Canyon or…

McDowell Creek Falls Hiking Guide
The McDowell Creek Falls hike under a lush woodland canopy is a peaceful place to enjoy nature with calming sounds of nearby McDowell Creek. There are several trail options going past multiple falls. Royal Terrace Falls, (not pictured) was just a trickle mid summer, so a fall hike would be a great time for ideal water flowing over the falls. About the Trail This wooded trail is fairly easy, but has a moderate rating due to the number of stairs. If you have mobility issues, this might not be a good choice. The stair cases will get your heart racing, but they are only in a couple areas. We hiked…

Quick stop at Wiskeytown National Scenic Area
Wiskeytown National Scenic Area is a great place to experience the natural beauty of northern California. Our trip to Whiskeytown was on our route north back to Oregon after spending Christmas in Arizona. It was a quick last minute detour, but we look forward to returning someday to spend more time exploring. Whiskeytown was once a gold mining settlement during the California Gold Rush of 1849. Now, this area draws people looking to swim, sail, kayak, fish and hike…you can even pan for gold during the summer months. Check the website for schedule details. We arrived at the Visitor’s Center, got our National Parks Passports stamped and found out what…

Dry Creek Falls Hiking Guide
Our family set out to find a new hiking trail that is both family friendly and not too crowded like many of the better known trails. While this trail did have a gradual slope, I would classify it as an easy hike with the biggest incline at the last 1/4 mile before the falls. Located in the town of Cascade Locks, Dry Creek Falls is a family friendly hike through forest trails in the heart of the Columbia River Gorge. This short hike follows along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and takes you through a beautiful forested area to Herman Creek. It’s the perfect spring hike when the weather is…
